Vidgo Review

Vidgo is a relatively new challenger to the TV streaming market that was founded in December 2019, and when you compare channels lineups, it has a similar all-round offering to Hulu, but at a lower price.

Company profile

Vidgo is an over-the-top TV streaming service, meaning it provides access to live TV without needing a cable subscription. It’s a newcomer to the market, only fully launching in December 2019, and its competition comes from services offering a similar number of channels such as Sling TV and Philo.

While no subscriber numbers have been disclosed yet, the service is hoping to beat its rivals with its wide range of live sports offerings. The service is also aiming to differentiate itself by offering a ‘Social TV’ option. This tool acts like a chat room where your friends and family can log on at the same time and watch TV together. You can chat and send reactions as your favorite shows go out live. You can even join the ‘group hang’ for that channel and chat with any other Vidgo user. What’s more, you can drop polls into the chat to canvas the opinions of fellow fans.

Catalog

The service has an excellent selection of live sports, and you’ll get access to ESPN, Fox Sports, the NFL Network, and ABC sports. You’ll also find a resectable range of news channels like ABC and Fox, alongside some popular entertainment networks such as A&E, Comedy Central, and Discovery.

Unfortunately, on-demand and cloud DVR services are currently unavailable, and if you miss a show that goes out live, you’ll have just 72 hours before it’s removed from the service. Vidgo does have plans to add these in the future, but it hasn’t said when this might be.

While you won’t have access to a back catalog, you can still enjoy some high-quality live TV shows like The First 48, South Park, and Hell’s Kitchen.

Global coverage

The TV streaming service is currently only available in the US. If you’d like to watch live TV overseas, you’ll need to use a virtual private network.

Summary

Vidgo is a great option for those looking to cut the cord and find an inexpensive live TV streaming service. If you’re a sports fan, you’ll find more than enough to keep you entertained; plus, its range of other channels offers a good variety of different programming. It also has one of the widest range of Spanish language channels on offer, more than most other streaming services.

However, a lack of DVR and on-demand services does put it behind some of its competitors like Sling TV. We’ll hopefully see these features added in the future, definitely making Vidgo one to watch.
